A question on the proof of the adaptive of phobias. How does
behaviorist prove that phobia is adaptive in term of evolution? Not
that I disagree with his conclusion, but his proof is questionable in
terms of validity. He ask a bunch of ‘expert’ to evaluate the
‘adaptivity’ of various phobia object, then of course, the majority of
feared object is rated dangerous. How could modern people determine
what is to be feared by ancient people, as our lifestyle is radically
different? What methodologists would support the idea that we can
change the attribute of an event by simply rating it? I wonder how the
ancient people rate our unhealthy lifestyle? So the conclusion forced
upon me is: This is pseudo-science.
